ABOUT ME

Emily Powers, M.A. CCC-SLP

I received my bachelors of science at Ohio University in 2012 in Communication Sciences and Disorders, with a minor in psychology. Following graduation from OU, I moved to Cuenca, Ecuador, where I taught English for several years and became fluent in Spanish. There, I taught English to children and adults  as well as started my own business teaching medical English to medical staff at a local hospital. I graduated from Ohio State University in 2019, after specializing in bilingualism and stuttering, where I studied the connection between dual language learning and stuttering.

Following graduate school, I moved to Chicago, Illinois, where I completed my clinical fellowship. There, I worked primarily with the Latino population and developed my skills evaluating, diagnosing, and treating bilingual children with various disorders. Now, I'm a full time speech language pathologist at a school in Columbus, Ohio and work with school-age children. Remediation of speech sound disorders (articulation) is what I find  the most fascinating...  I love teaching children how to make their sounds and seeing their confidence increase as they improve their pronunciation!
